Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteers will wear yellow vests and offer assistance to DMV customers who would like to register to vote or update their registrations. Each service center location offers a dedicated myvote.wi.gov work station with internet access. There is not, however, public internet access at this location to support the use of other devices. Please note that there are TWO DMV service centers in Eau Claire. This activity is at the Melby Street location. All LWV-GCV volunteers are asked to know our chapter's volunteer code of conduct, available at lwv-gcv.org: click on "About Us" - Document Library - General Documents - Voting tools. Need a refresher in how to assist voters to register? See Voter Registration Training under General Documents on the website (see instructions above).

Volunteers will give an educational presentation on voting and then meet with jail residents who are eligible to vote to assist them in registering and/or requesting an absentee ballot. Volunteers for this activity need to have completed an orientation and a background check specific to volunteering at Dunn County Jail. If you haven't, but are interested in becoming qualified to volunteer at the jail in the future, contact Karen Voss at karensvoss@gmail.com. Previous knowledge of voter registration and absentee ballot voting is required. LWV-WI, the WI Fair Maps Coalition, and other nonpartisan organizations are advocating that we vote "NO" on two proposed constitutional amendments that are on the April 13 ballot. If enacted, the amendments may impede the just, efficient, and timely use of federal funds by our state government. As with many ballot measures, the language can be confusing to voters. More about the issue is at https://my.lwv.org/wisconsin/august-2024-constitutional-amendments. We'll meet in good company to write postcards to voters to encourage them to vote "No" on the amendments. Just bring yourself and your favorite pen, or use one of ours. Cards, postage, a mailing list, and sample messages will be provided. The Raw Deal offers house-roasted coffee, smoothies, and other beverages and a selection of baked goods and light fare. At this outdoor market in Menomonie’s Wilson Park, LWV-GCV volunteers will assist citizens to register to vote, and answer questions about upcoming elections. As with any outdoor event, dress for the weather. We aim for a min of two volunteers/shift. If the voter registration activity must be cancelled, volunteers will be notified two days prior.

First shift volunteers will arrive at 9:30 a.m. to set up the table and do outreach to voters until 2 p.m. WHYSfest is an outdoor music festival (formerly the Bluegrass Festival), rain or shine, that will feature 6 regional bands and family activities, with attendance est at 300 to 1,000. LWV-GCV volunteers will get complimentary admission but advance sign-up is required. Volunteers may purchase food from the restaurant's outdoor menu throughout the day. There will be a tent, but this is an outdoor event--dress for the weather.
